About DexCare
What is DexCare?
DexCare is a patient access and navigation platform used by many of the nation’s leading health systems. It connects data across EMRs, PDMs, digital front doors, and call centers, connecting the dots so patients find care, providers fill their schedules, and capacity gets used efficiently.
Who is DexCare made for?
DexCare is made for health systems. Our platform serves more than 57 million patients across all 50 states and has facilitated more than 5 million care journeys. Customers include Kaiser Permanente, Piedmont, SSM Health, MUSC, and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Is DexCare only for large health systems, or does it work for smaller ones, too?
DexCare is built and sold exclusively to health systems rather than independent practices, and its customer base is concentrated among large, multi-site enterprise systems. Smaller or single-facility organizations are not the platform’s primary fit.
Where is DexCare headquartered?
DexCare is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
Is DexCare part of Providence Health System?
No. DexCare was incubated inside Providence’s Digital Innovation Group in 2016 and spun out as an independent, separately funded company in 2021. Providence remains a customer and early investor, but today DexCare serves many health systems.
Platform and Features
What does DexCare do for health systems?
DexCare helps health systems convert patient search into booked appointments, while balancing patient demand against provider and facility capacity. It combines search, scheduling, provider data management, and routing logic into one connected system.
What are DexCare’s core features?
DexCare’s platform includes four core features: Search and Schedule, Provider Data Management (PDM+), Optimize AI, and Virtual On Demand.
- Search and Schedule — Multiple capabilities, including Acquire, Site Search, Find a Doctor, and Smart Scheduling, streamlining the entire patient journey from search to booked visit.
- Provider Data Management (PDM+) — An AI-powered data layer structured around how care happens, so routing and scheduling work as designed.
- Optimize AI — Recovers the scheduling knowledge that’s never been written down and creates a single source of truth that works across every channel—call center, website, AI agent.
- Virtual On Demand — Lets patients can access care in minutes, and health systems can make better use of their clinical workforce.
How is DexCare different from other digital front door software?
DexCare adds a layer of intelligence beyond what traditional digital front door software provides, giving health systems a full view into all their capacity data. The intelligence layer includes clean and unified provider data, real-time appointment availability, routing rules that guide patients to the most appropriate care site, and multi-channel capabilities.
What makes DexCare PDM+ different from legacy PDM?
PDM+ overcomes the core limitations of legacy PDM tools by locking in corrections, personalizing search, and unifying data across channels.
Legacy PDM lets the next ingestion overwrite manual corrections, so PDM+ uses field locking to make approved changes stick. Legacy PDM’s rigid keywords reflect clinical terminology, so PDM+ builds keywords around how patients actually search. And where legacy PDM lets each channel show a different version of the truth, PDM+ feeds one trusted source consistently to every channel.
Which patient access problems does DexCare solve?
DexCare is purpose-built to solve three of the most pressing patient access problems in health systems.
- Inaccurate provider data, and data that gets overwritten with every new data feed
- Scheduling rules that live in complex decision trees or vanish when staff leaves
- Inconsistent answers across the call center, website, and AI agent
DexCare solves these challenges by consolidating the data and scheduling logic, creating a trusted foundation that every patient access channel and team can run on.
What AI features is DexCare known for?
Optimize AI is DexCare’s best-known AI feature. It uses AI to ingest and structure scheduling knowledge from multiple sources, including documents, wiki pages, NPIs, and decision trees. It also automatically contacts human schedulers and asks structured questions about their routing rules, then adds them to a central knowledge base. When a scheduler or AI agent queries the system, Optimize retrieves the exact, approved record from the database so patients and staff get the right answer every time.
Search, Scheduling, and Booking
What is patient navigation software?
Patient navigation software matches patients to the right provider, location, and care modality (office visit, urgent care, virtual visit, etc.) based on their need, location, and real-time availability. It then routes patients into a streamlined online booking flow. It supplements or replaces manual, call-center-dependent matching with automated, data-driven routing.
What is a patient access platform?
Patient access platforms balance two goals at once: getting patients into care quickly and using existing provider capacity efficiently, rather than solving for one at the expense of the other.
What benefits does DexCare deliver over traditional care searches?
DexCare understands and matches a patient’s natural search language to care, so searches for terms like “sore left knee” surface the right providers in seconds. Search results are ranked by real-time provider availability. Patients can go from query to confirmed appointment without needing to log into the patient portal. And patients see all available options, including doctors, nurses, urgent care, and virtual care appointments.
How does DexCare make it easier for patients to book a doctor’s appointment?
Health systems using DexCare can embed care tiles onto their highest traffic web pages, so a blog post about “7 ways to cope with painful periods” can include an option to book with an OB/GYN. DexCare also offers a streamlined booking flow. Patients need only to choose a date and time, then enter a few basics (name, birthdate, insurance), so they can book in seconds.
Can I get a DexCare demo without calling sales?
Yes. DexCare offers a free interactive demo, no sales call required. Enter your organization’s URL, and we’ll create a live, clickable demo in a sandbox environment. The demo will use your providers and your health system’s branding, so you can see exactly how the platform will look on your digital properties.
SEO and AI Search Visibility
Does DexCare improve health system visibility in AI and Google searches (AEO/SEO)?
Yes. Acquire, part of DexCare’s Search and Schedule, provides health systems with fast-loading pages built with answer engine optimization (AEO) and search engine optimization (SEO) best practices. It generates hundreds of provider, location, specialty, and condition pages, each with structured schema for AI visibility and server-side rendering to pass Google Core Web Vitals. And it’s all backed by a human healthcare SEO team that monitors and tunes performance.
What is AEO (answer engine optimization)?
AEO is the practice of structuring content so AI systems, including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, and Perplexity, can extract and cite it directly in a generated answer, rather than only optimizing for a ranked list of blue links.
